Valley League Baseball....

I have been doing some research on this since my cousin is playing in the league this year. They have players from all over the US playing on those teams. I saw a few players from King College playing. I saw a couple from teams in the AAC that UVA-Wise plays in. I didn't see anyone from UVA-Wise or any other local teams but it is pretty neat. UT and VT have multiple players playing on different teams in the league. I think I am going to take a weekend and go watch him play, should be fun.

Has anyone been to any of these stadiums? I was lookin at the stadium that my cousin will be playing in (Bing Crosby Stadium, Home of the Front Royal Cardinals) and it is very nice. It looks nicer than most Minor League stadiums and most college stadiums I have seen.

No they are in Front Royal, Va. It is about an hour north of Harrisonburg on Highway 66. Most all of the teams are around the Shennondoah Valley.

As far as I know nobody from Wise is playing in it. Several of our younger players play Legion Ball.

Your cousin has his first game this weekend?? I hear they are limiting the pitching to 70 pitches.

No that is the SBC...Southern Baseball Confernece if I'm not mistaken, I played in it one year, the team out of Johnson City is called the Tennessee Thunder. It was ranked #6th in the nation last year for summer league quality.

The Valley league is really good, the only ones I can think that are better on the east coast are the Code (#1) and maybe the coastal plains league, and I'm sure a league down in Flordia? Alaska has a great league they are usually always number 2 only behind the one in new england.

He didn't say anything about that. He is a pitcher. They only have 4 starting pitchers on the roster so he should get some pretty good PT. They only get I think two days off a week. He is rooming with a guy from the University of Memphis. He said it has been great so far. He is only a freshman in college so I hope this will help develop his game a little. They do have a game tomorrow night, I will try to listen to it.

That is what my cousin said. He told me he wanted to play in one of the quality leagues. He said the Cape Cod league was #1, then the Valley League, and then I think he said the Carolina League #3 on his list. He was pretty lucky to get in the Valley League.

It takes some gettin used to to adjust to the wood-but I think all colleges should use them in the regular season. Pitchers usually do alot better especially in these leagues cause they can saw guys hands off and break alot of bats. Those blop singles with aluminum are routine outs with wood.

The league out of Johnson City was pretty good, we did alot of traveling--usually playing a double header at like 5, then having another double header the next morning at 11.

I'm pretty sure the one in Alaska is in the top 3. I heard it is a great league, gets alot of guys from California and the west coast.

Oh yeah, also most leagues let you hit with 10 guys. You have a DH and an EH. The substitution rules apply the same for the DH (highschool and NAIA) but the EH you can move around and stuff.

the valley league is highly competitive. it's usually reserved for freshmen and sophomores. the cape cod league and the alaskan league is generally the best college summer leagues in the US. most kids play in those 2 leagues and will get drafted in june.
